Poor basic skills (literacy and numeracy) effects 1 in 5
adults in the UK. This in turn has a huge impact on businesses
and the economy as a whole. In recent years there has been
a drive by central government to raise these skills levels
by offering free level one and level two qualifications
in numeracy and literacy. The local LSCs were given the role
of promoting this at local levels.
